“Before you find your prince, you need to kiss a lot of frogs.”
A good friend and colleague of mine, Dr. Dido Gustilo-Villasor told me this one time when I failed to land an interview for a job. I felt confident that my credentials were enough, and that I was competent at the work I’d have to do.
A few days after telling her this, I was going through my e-mails when I saw one that read “Thank you for Applying at [company name]”. I was expecting to get the schedule for my interview, but then the second paragraph began with “we are no longer pushing through with your application in the hiring process.”
Guess what? That was just another frog. I wrote about learning to fail, and this is a good example of what it’s like. I wasn’t good enough for that company. Sure, that happens sometimes. Now, it’s on me to improve myself and keep looking for the right fit.
Fail forward and stay focused on your goals. One day the frog will turn into a prince.
