Today is the first of three blog posts on love. I purposely chose “Flowers are Twice the Price” Day to publish this because today we’re reminded of the one we love or maybe the one we lost. It should be fun, so let’s get started.
First of all, let’s talk about the kind of love we’ll be discussing. We’re keeping it simple. This is about romantic, head over heels, passionate love. This won’t be about companionship, or agape, or love for family. We’re talking about a crazy little thing called love.
It’s just another trip to the mall with your family. You’re just walking around normally, looking through glass windows, browsing through the new items that have arrived in the store that week. Suddenly, you bump into someone. You see that person’s face then your heart stops before pumping a lot faster, your cheeks turn red, you feel your ears and the rest of your head warming up. You may have even frozen for a second without noticing.
Has that ever happened to you? That feeling of complete shock followed by the loss of your ability to speak? If you answered yes, you’re not alone. Whether you like it or not, Cupid’s arrow has hit you and your body has followed suit. It’s an autonomic response similar to fight or flight, when we’re presented with a life-threatening situation. I’d argue that this is a life-threatening situation.
This brings us to today’s topic: who do we fall in love with? What qualities, characteristics, and quirks piqued your interest and eventually removed all logic from your brain?
The answer to these questions may not always be clear or straightforward. You may be thinking “I just do!,” and leave it at that. If we go deeper into the reasons behind our infatuation, we get to learn more about what we value in sparking our passion. Whether it’s for love, career, hobbies, sports, or any other activity that is fueled by passion, learning the ins and outs of your feelings is never a bad thing.
I work with people on finding their purpose, and passion plays a big role in that pursuit. Passion, to a certain extent, relates to feelings of contentment, gratitude, and calm. You have peace of mind when you know there’s something to look forward to.
Who are YOU passionate about? Who do YOU love? I’d like to hear your thoughts on this. Leave a comment below and let’s get talking.
